Key Contacts

When waiting for or after receiving an autism diagnosis for your child in Ireland, it is important to know who to contact for support and guidance.

Here’s a list of key contacts:

Special Educational Needs Organiser (SENO)

  • Role: SENOs are part of the National Council for Special Education (NCSE). They can help secure school placements and arrange appropriate educational supports for your child, such as access to special classes, schools, or resource hours.
  • Contact: Reach out to your local SENO via the NCSE website (ncse.ie).

Children’s Disability Network Team (CDNT)

  • Role: CDNTs provide services like speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, and psychological support for children with disabilities. They coordinate Early Intervention and ongoing support services.
  • Contact: Contact the HSE for details on the CDNT team in your area or check your referral progress if you’re on a waiting list.

Support Organisations

Examples:

  • AsIAm: Offers resources, advocacy, and practical advice for families with autistic children (asiam.ie).
  • Inclusion Ireland: Focuses on the rights of people with disabilities, providing guidance and support (inclusionireland.ie).

Local Parent Support Groups

  • Role: Connect with parents who share similar experiences. These groups often provide emotional support, advice, and knowledge about local services.

GP or Public Health Nurse

  • Role: Consult with your GP or Public Health Nurse for referrals to additional services, including respite care, counselling, or HSE-funded programs.

Social Welfare Office

  • Supports: Check eligibility for financial supports such as the Domiciliary Care Allowance (DCA) or Carer’s Allowance.
